SEE PHOTOGRAPH/S AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE! GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION - NO RESERVE - LOW OPENING BID!!! This auction is for a superb vintage hardback edition entitled “Characters from the Histories and Memoirs of the Seventeenth Century,” subtitled “with an Essay on The Character and Historical Notes,” by David Nichol Smith. It was published by The Clarendon Press, of Oxford, in 1936. The contents include: · Essay on the Character o The Literary Models o Clarendon o Other Character Writers ...and more... · Characters o James I o Sir Thomas Coventry o Sir Francis Bacon o Henry Hastings o Lord Falkland o Royalist Generals o John Pym o Oliver Cromwell o John Milton o Charles II ...and more... The book measures 7.75 inches x 5.5 inches. The 331 pages are generally neat (bump/bruise in the middle to the top rims) and a little faded with age, with light foxing to the rims. The binding is used but good with no loose or missing pages. Apart from a previous owner’s initials (dated 1938) at the front, there are no other ink or pencil markings in the book. The original cloth hardback cover is in very good condition for its age, with bumps to the boards, having been otherwise largely protected by the original dust-jacket. The dust jacket is worn/tatty at the edges, is grubby has not been price-clipped. The gold on the front board and spine is very good. A wonderful vintage edition – the starting price is just ONE PENNY, with NO RESERVE, and I WILL SELL to the highest bidder. I am more than happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases and cost will be determined on the total weight of your wins (see below for costs and full details).
