This auction is for a superb GEORGIAN (during the reign of King George IV 1820-1830) leather and hardback edition entitled “The Poetical Works of Alexander Pope,” subtitled “Including His Translation of Homer, Complete in One Volume, with the Life of the Author,” by Dr. Johnson, with a wonderful fine engraved frontispiece engraving of Alexander Pope and engraved title page.
It was published by Jones and Co., of London, in 1824-1826. the work is Complete in One Volume but appears to have been published in four parts and bound in a contemporary hardback cover with marbled boards and brown leather spine and corners.

· The ODYSSEY of HOMER translated into English by Alexander Pope (91 pages, printed for Jones and Co., of London, in 1826)
Bound at the back of the book is part of Don Juan by Lord Byron, with a fine engraving of Lord Byron published by Jones and Co., of London in 1825 (no title page).
The book measures 8.75 inches x 5.75 inches.
The 292 pages are nice and neat and a little faded with age, with light foxing near the covers. The binding is good with no loose or missing pages. There is a previous owner’s smart privately printed engraved armorial book-plate at the front and a few minor markings in the text.
The contemporary marbled hardback cover with leather spine and corners is in good condition for its age, with minor wear, bumped corners. The boards are good and secure at the hinges. The gold on the spine is good.
