SEE PHOTOGRAPH/S AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE! GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION - NO RESERVE - LOW OPENING BID!!! This auction is for a superb vintage hardback FIRST EDITION (First impression of the First Edition) entitled “Charlie Chaplin,” by Theodore Huff, with ONE-HUNDRED FORTY-SIX wonderful vintage photographic illustrations, and a frontispiece portrait of Charlie Chaplin. It was published by Cassell Company Ltd., of London, in 1952, and is the FIRST BRITISH EDITION. Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin, Jr., KBE (1889-1977), better known as Charlie Chaplin, was an Academy Award-winning English comedy actor, whose working life in entertainment spanned over 65 years. He became one of the most famous actors in the early to mid Hollywood silent-film era, as well as a notable director, composer and musician. He is considered to have been one of the finest mimes and clowns ever caught on film and has greatly influenced many other performers. Chaplin’s earliest films were made for Mack Sennett's Keystone Studios, where he learned the art and craft of film making and developed his principal character of the tramp. “The Tramp” was a vagrant with the refined manners and dignity of a gentleman, who wore a tight coat, oversized trousers and shoes, a derby hat, carried a bamboo cane and has a toothbrush style moustache. The contents include: · Childhood and Stage Career · The Karno Company and Tour of America · The Motion Picture Industry · The Chaplin-Keystone Films · The Classic Mutual Comedies · Million-Dollar Contract and First Marriage · Chaplin’s Method · ‘The Gold Rush’ · Chaplin as Composer ...and more... The book measures 8.75 inches x 6 inches x 1.5 inches. The 320 pages are neat with a little light foxing near the covers/rims. The binding is good with no loose or missing pages. There are NO inscriptions and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book (there is an abrasion mark to the top right hand corner of the blank page inside the front cover where a small address sticker or price sticker has been removed). The original cloth hardback cover is in very good condition for its age, with minor wear/bumps and is a little grubby/blemished. A wonderfully illustrated vintage FIRST EDITION – the starting price is just ONE PENNY, with NO RESERVE, and I WILL SELL to the highest bidder. I am more than happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases and cost will be determined on the total weight of your wins (see below for costs and full details).
