Christie’s South Kensington. Trains Galore. London (South Kensington) Monday 19 December 1988. Soft cover, 320 Lots, 60 pp. Illustrated with Color and BW Photographic Plates.
You are bidding on a great catalog of Model and Toy Trains from an auction at Christie's London (South Kensington) in December 1988. The catalog features a large number of antique train sets from the early 1900s, as well as more recent items. Although not fully illustrated, a large number of lots are depicted with high quality Color and BW photographic plates.
Among the highlights of the catalog, which are also illustrated are: An Early Märklin Clockwork Trainset from c. 1899, A Märklin Jubilee Set No. AR 12930/35/3 Comprising a (3-rail) electric model of the 2-2-2 "Planet" Locomotive and tender "Der Adler" from c. 1935, A Finely Detailed Two-Rail Electric Model of the G.W.R. King Class 4-6-0 Locomotive and Tender No. 6000 "King George V" built by R. Smith, Burwash, from the 1980s, A Bing Clockwork C.I.W.L. Trainset from c. 1909, An Early Märklin Central Railway Station "Central-Bahnhof" from c. 1901, A Bing Live Steam Spirit Fired Model of the L.N.W.R. 4-4-0 Locomotive and 6 Wheel Tender No. 7098 "Flying Dutchman" from c. 1903. And there is much much more.
Condition: My copy of this catalog is in very good shape, overall. The stapled binding is tight, with both staples firmly in place. Both covers and all interior pages are intact. The interior pages have no creases or writing on them. A previous owner has cut out the illustration of one of the lots on page 13, which also contained the descriptions of loks numbers 53 54 on page 14. There is mild discoloration to the front cover of the catalog ans some surface scratches to the back cover.
Note: It would have been impossible for me to scan any of the interior pages without changing the condition of the catalog. The picture I have used is from the front cover and shows a portion of An Early Hand Painted Märklin Clockwork Traninset from c. 1900 (Lot # 309).
