GOOD CONDITION - NO RESERVE - LOW OPENING BID!!!
This auction is for a superb vintage hardback FIRST EDITION (First impression of the First Edition) entitled “The Diary of Henry Crabb Robinson,” subtitled “An Abridgement,” edited and with an introduction by Derek Hudson, with TWO portraits of Henry Crabb Robinson.
It was published by Oxford University Press, of London, in 1967 and is the FIRST EDITION in this selection.
Henry Crabb Robinson (1775-1867) a journalist, barrister, non-conformist, educationalist and traveller, was a man of character and humour who knew most of the leading writers of his time, both in England and in Germany.
His intimate diary gives perhaps the most detached impartial picture that we have of the English literary world during the first half of the nineteenth century. His close friends included William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Charles Lamb.
The book measures 8.75 inches x 5.75 inches.
The 348 pages are neat with a little light foxing to the rims. The binding is good with no loose or missing pages (the front blank endpaper has been torn out). The book is a former vintage library book with the usual stamps and stickers.
The original cloth hardback cover is in good condition for its age, having been largely protected by the dust-jacket. The illustrated dust-jacket is in good condition for its age, with wear/chipped at the edges, is a little grubby/faded and has not been price-clipped. There is evidence of removal of vintage clear tape on the cover, endpapers and dust-jacket. The gold on the spine is very good.
A good reading copy of this wonderful vintage FIRST EDITION – the starting price is just ONE PENNY, with NO RESERVE, and I WILL SELL to the highest bidder.
I am more than happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases and cost will be determined on the total weight of your wins (see below for costs and full details).
