This auction is for a superb vintage hardback edition entitled “Words Places,” subtitled “Illustrations of History, Ethnology Geography,” by Isaac Taylor, Canon of York, edited by Ernest Rhys, with FIVE wonderful maps and with decorated endpapers.
It was published by J. M. Dent Sons, Ltd., of London and Toronto, and E.P. Dutton Co., of New York, in 1921, and is one of the wonderful “Everyman’s Library” series.
This book is a very interesting and comprehensive study of all aspects of place-names, including their origins, the names of nations, ethnic group names, village names, street names, local names and more.

The book measures 7 inches x 4.5 inches.
The 473 pages are nice and neat and a little faded with age, with light foxing near the covers/rims. The binding is very good with no loose or missing pages.
There are NO inscriptions and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book.
The original cloth hardback cover is in very good condition for its age, with minor wear and is a little grubby.
A fascinating vintage edition – the starting price is just ONE PENNY, with NO RESERVE, and I WILL SELL to the highest bidder.
