VERY GOOD CONDITION - NO RESERVE - LOW OPENING BID!!!
This auction is for a superb vintage hardback FIRST EDITION (First impression of the First Edition) entitled “The Forge,” subtitled “The History of Goldsmiths’ College 1905-1955,” edited by Dorothy Dymond, sometime History Lecturer at Goldsmiths’ College, with THIRTEEN wonderful vintage photographic illustrations, including a frontispiece portrait of William Loring, M.A., First Warden of the College, 1905 to 1915.
It was published by Methuen Co., Ltd., of London, in 1955, and is the FIRST EDITION (stated).
The institution was founded in 1891 as “Goldsmiths' Technical and Recreative Institute” by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. This well-researched and authoritative history was published to celebrate the Jubilee of Goldsmiths' College, an institution of the University of London. It is a fascinating account of the fifty years’ history of the College and particularly of the large teacher training department.
The contents include:
· Prologue by Mary Stocks
· Fifty Years of Growth
· Pioneer Work, Experiments and Social Service Compiled by Kathleen C. Gurner
· Daily Life in College by Caroline Graveson and others
· Epilogue by D. R. Chesterman
… and more …
The book measures 8.75 inches 5.75 inches.
The 158 pages are nice and neat and a little faded with age, with light foxing near the rims. The binding is very good with no loose or missing pages.
There are NO inscriptions and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book.
The original cloth hardback cover is in very good condition for its age, with minor wear/bumps and is pretty clean, having been largely protected by the dust-jacket. The illustrated dust-jacket is good for its age – worn/tatty/chipped at the edges, is a little grubby/faded, and has been neatly price-clipped. The gold on the spine and front board of the book is good.
A wonderful vintage FIRST EDITION – the starting price is just ONE PENNY, with NO RESERVE, and I WILL SELL to the highest bidder.
I am more than happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases and cost will be determined on the total weight of your wins (see below for costs and full details).
