GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION - NO RESERVE - LOW OPENING BID!!!
This auction is for a superb vintage hardback edition entitled “Three Fevers,” by Leo Walmsley (1892-1966).
It was published by Collins, of St James’s Place, London, in 1946. It states 1946 at the bottom of the title page and 1946 on the copyright page on the reverse. This edition is uncommon and is sometimes confused with the first edition (where the dust-jacket is not present) but this is the first printing of the post-war New Edition.
The first autobiographical novel, in what is known as the Bramblewick trilogy set in the author’s home town of Robin Hood's Bay. The trilogy was: Three Fevers, Phantom Lobster and Sally Lunn. Three Fevers was filmed as Turn of the Tide.
Three Fevers is the tale of the adventures and rivalries between the long-established Fosdycks and newcomers the Lunns. Here are laid bare the lives of the fishermen of Bramblewick, who tackle the stormy seas with no thought of bravery, whose work is determined by the ebb and flow to the tide and whose days are an unending conflict with the elements.
“Excitement flavours every chapter. There are moments in this book that lift you into exhilaration as a following wave will lift a boat” – Eric Linklater in Listner
The book measures 7.5 inches x 5.25 inches.
The 255 pages are nice and neat and a little faded with age. The binding is very good with no loose or missing pages. Apart from a previous owner’s signature at the front, there are no other ink or pencil markings in the book.
The original blue cloth hardback cover is in very good condition for its age, with minor wear/bumps and is a little faded, having been largely protected by the dust-jacket. The illustrated dust-jacket is reasonably good for its age - torn/chipped at the edges, is a little grubby/faded and has been neatly price-clipped.
A wonderful vintage edition – the starting price is just ONE PENNY, with NO RESERVE, and I WILL SELL to the highest bidder.
I am more than happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases and cost will be determined on the total weight of your wins (see below for costs and full details).
