SEE PHOTOGRAPH/S AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE! GOOD CONDITION - NO RESERVE - LOW OPENING BID!!! This auction is for a vintage FIRST EDITION (First impression of the First Edition) entitled “Lord Denning’s Report,” “Presented to Parliament by the Prime Minister by Command of Her Majesty, September 1963.” It was published by Her Majesty’s Stationery Office, of London, in 1963, and is the FIRST EDITION. This book contains the government report presented to Parliament by the Prime Minister Harold Macmillan in September 1963, investigating the sex scandal of the then Secretary of State for War, J. D. Profumo, with Christine Keeler and Soviet spy Eugene Ivanov – commonly referred to as the “Profumo Affair”. The blame for the infamous events of 1963, which finished the career of John Profumo and brought down the Conservative government, has always been laid firmly on the shoulders of osteopath Stephen Ward. Ward had invited the married British cabinet minister to a party and introduced him to the showgirl, Christine Keeler. Ward, a professional London osteopath (whose patients had included rich and powerful members of society such as Sir Winston Churchill and many leading politicians) was accused of living wholly or in part on the earning of the profits of prostitution. Ward committed suicide on the last day of the trial, and when the jury reached their verdict he was already in a coma. The contents include: · The Principal Persons · The Cliveden Week-End and Its Sequel · Stephen Ward Helping the Russians · The Slashing and Shooting · Christine Tells Her Story · The Police are Told · The Lawyers are Called In · The Disappearance of Christine Keeler … and more … The book measures 9.75 inches 6 inches. The 114 pages are generally neat (some creased corners), and a little faded with age. The binding is very good with no loose or missing pages (rusty staples). Apart from a previous owner’s signature at the front, there are no other ink or pencil markings in the book. The cover is sound for a softback of its age, with minor wear, creases and is a little faded/grubby. A good reading copy of this vintage FIRST EDITION – the starting price is just ONE PENNY, with NO RESERVE, and I WILL SELL to the highest bidder. I am more than happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases and cost will be determined on the total weight of your wins (see below for costs and full details).
