Greetings! It's been quite some time since I've listed, and frankly -- 'real life' intervened and I've been 'embedded' in those nasty little circumstances over the last couple of months. Not only did they significantly impact my auction listings, but -- unfortunately -- also my service to my customers. My communication and shipping also slipped -- and the resulting feedbacks rightfully reflect that. The personal issues are resolved (hopefully), and I hope you feel confident enough by reviewing my 1000+ positive feedbacks to participate in my auctions. I guarantee you I will ship within 5 business days of confirmed payment, and for the next while I'm going to offer FREE SHIPPING (to the 48 contiguous United States only) on many items. Thanks.
Almost all the items I list have never seen the shelves of an antique shop -- they are 'finds' that I purchase directly from, or sell on consignment for, individuals who have had them for years. I do not sell in any antique shop -- ebay is my only source for disseminating the items. I've had some wonderful and distinctive items come in lately, and I'll be listing heavily in the next few weeks -- be sure to check out my other auctions.
My recent consignments include a good number of rare and diverse older books -- I'll list several today, and there will be more interspersed with auctions I list in the coming weeks.
This auction is for an early American edition of 'GEOFFREY CHAUCER'S CANTERBURY TALES -- RENDERED INTO MODERN ENGLISH BY J. U. NICOLSON. WITH ILLUSTRATIONS BY ROCKWELL KENT AND AN INTRODUCTION BY GORDON HALL GEROULD'.
It is a 1934 'De Luxe Edition' by 'GARDEN CITY PUBLISHING COMPANY, INC., GARDEN CITY, NEW YORK'. This is not one of the 'collector's library' cheaply bound reproductions/reprints of this book -- it is the original Garden City publication. Rockwell Kent is one of America's most prestigious illustrators, and there are superb duotones in sand and black included throughout the 627 pages.
The binding is tight, and the pages are clean with the exception of very light water marks on some of the pages on the very outer margin. There is no warping of the pages. You can see there is an owner's signature on the first page (with the tree illustration.
A nice, early American copy of this classic work. Note that there is FREE shipping. Thanks for looking -- have a great week.
AUCTION CONDITIONS:
1. Have some fun with this -- invest well in items that will not depreciate. Your antiques and art are as good investments as are homes and stocks nowdays -- and you get to enjoy these investments on a daily basis!
2. I will ship all items within 5 business days of confirmed payment. I use DHL Delivery for larger and heavier packages, and the USPS (parcel post) for smaller, lighter packages. I use packing materials recycled from neighborhood businesses -- please do your best to recycle them too. I try to get as close to possible on actual shipping costs, and I just can't help it that those costs continue to rise.
3. Quick payment is appreciated, but not necessary. I'm pretty comfortable receiving the payment within 5 days of the purchase date.
4. I will require insurance on fragile items, and if you're purchasing one it's best to wait to pay until I send you an invoice (within 48 hours of purchase) including insurance. You can see by my feedbacks that I pack well -- but there simply is no guarantee with any carrier. Purchasing insurance also gives you a USPS tracking number, and that can be critical if a package needs to be tracked.
5. Be sure to ask your questions early. I do not have a comupter at home (by choice), so it may take me 2 or 3 days to get back to you.
6. If you find any item is significantly not as described -- I'll gladly refund your purchase price. Out of 1,500+ ebay transactions (not everyone leaves feedbacks), I maybe have had -- at most -- 5 or 6 returns. I've been in the antiques business for 25 years, so I can usually make a pretty reasonable call on items, and if I can't -- I research them to provide you with as much information as I can dig up.
