SEE PHOTOGRAPH/S AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE! GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION - NO RESERVE - LOW OPENING BID!!! This auction is for a superb vintage hardback FIRST EDITION (First impression of the First Edition) entitled “Realist Music,” subtitled “25 Soviet Composers,” by Rena Moisenko, with a foreword by Sir Adrian Boult, TWELVE wonderful vintage photographic illustrations and numerous musical scores. It was published by Meridan Books Ltd., of London, in 1949 and is the FIRST EDITION. This fascinating book contains an account of Soviet realist music from the middle of the 20th century. It includes biographies and discussions of the writings of Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Khachaturyan, Myaskovsky and others. The book is arranged in two sections. The first section covers the theory of Socialist Music, and the second section covers the application of the theory in Socialist environment. The contents include: · Theory of Socialist Music o Socialist Philosophy as Influencing Music o Policy of Nationalities as Applied to Music o How Soviet Composers Work · Application of the Theory in Socialist Environment o Alexander Alexandrov – Soviet Army Choir o Boris Asafiev – Musicologist o Yvegeni Brussilovsky – Kazakhstan Research o Orles Chisko – Russian Soviet Opera o Isaak Dunayevski – Popular Music …and more… The book measures 8.75 inches x 5.75 inches x 1.25 inches. The 277 pages are nice and neat and a little faded with age, with light foxing near the covers/rims. The binding is very good with no loose or missing pages. There are NO inscriptions and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book. The original cloth hardback cover is in good condition for its age, with minor wear/bumps and is a little grubby/faded, having been largely protected by the dust-jacket. The illustrated dust-jacket is good for its age – a little tatty/torn/chipped at the edges, is grubby and has not been price-clipped. A fascinating vintage FIRST EDITION – the starting price is just ONE PENNY, with NO RESERVE, and I WILL SELL to the highest bidder. I am more than happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases and cost will be determined on the total weight of your wins (see below for costs and full details).
