Hello! Thanks for looking at this book. It is a 1969 book, of the presentation given to the Society of Antiques by Major-General H. D. W. Sitwell, C.B., C.V.O., M.C., F.S.A. It was printed by Vivian Ridler for the Society of Antiquaries of London, in 1969. There are six pages of photographic illustrations. The book details the history and the ceremonies of local and national government in Britain and the role of the ceremonial mace(s). However, it touches upon little known aspects of the history of the British army, its history and traditions. The book is broken down into the following chapters: Introduction. 13th - 15th Centuries. 16th Century to British Civil War. Civil War and Restoration of Charles II Sergeants-at-Arms from the Restoration to the present day. It is a very rare and out of print book.
