This is a souvenir cookbook, published in 1975, commemorating the sesquicentennial of Whiting, Maine, a village incorporated in 1825, located in Washington County, Maine. A short historical introduction is followed by the names of the cookbook committee, and many wonderful recipes written in the hand of the cook who submitted the individual recipes. Sections include: appetizers, beverages, breads and doughnuts, cakes and frostings, candy, cookies, desserts, meat and fish dishes, pickles, pies, salads and dressings, and vegetables. Well-known area residents of this unique Downeast Maine community include: Gladys Forslund, Corice Gardner, Carole Ann Sprague, Lillian Pope, Rebecca Crane, Ruth Foss, Nellie Bagley, Blanche Ackley, Frances Look, Virginia Munson, and Cora Estey Bowles, to name a few.
