This auction is for a superb vintage hardback edition entitled “Letters to the New Island,” by William Butler Yeats, edited and with an introduction by Horace Reynolds, and with a title page portrait. It was published by Oxford University Press, of London, in 1970. William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) was an Irish poet and dramatist, one of the foremost figures of twentieth century literature and a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival. He was a pillar of both the Irish and English literary establishments, and in his later years he served as an Irish Senator for two terms. This book contains a collection of letters written for US periodicals between 1889 and 1892, when Yeats was in his twenties. The 222 pages are nice and neat, with light foxing near the rims. The binding is very good with no loose or missing pages. There are NO inscriptions and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book. The original cloth hardback cover is in very good condition for its age, with minor wear and is clean, having been largely protected by the dust-jacket.
